# Custom properties

> Creating and editing custom metadata fields for your workspace

Add structured metadata fields to all workspace assets for advanced filtering and organization. Custom properties enable consistent categorization whether tracking project status, copyright information, or creative themes.

## How custom properties work

Custom properties extend default metadata with workspace-specific fields. These properties appear on every asset, enabling consistent data entry and powerful filtering.

Key benefits include enhanced organization, standardized metadata across teams, advanced search capabilities, and workflow-specific categorization.

## Steps

Create metadata fields that apply to all workspace assets:

**Multi-select Properties**

* **Features**: Multiple values per asset, dropdown selection interface

**Select Properties**

* **Best for**: Single-choice classifications
* **Example uses**: Project status, priority level, content stage
* **Features**: Single value per asset, enforced consistency

**Text Properties**

* **Best for**: Open-ended descriptions or notes
* **Example uses**: Creative brief, usage notes, source attribution
* **Features**: Free-form entry, searchable content

**Person Properties**

* **Best for**: Ownership and responsibility tracking
* **Example uses**: Asset owner, approver, photographer
* **Features**: Links to workspace members, notification integration

**License Properties**

* **Best for**: Copyright and usage rights management
* **Example uses**: Usage permissions, license type, attribution requirements
* **Features**: Structured license information, compliance tracking

**Editing** - Modify names, descriptions, dropdown options, and default values to match changing requirements.
